Hot Mess: Emmy Awards Edition

What…is this? Appearing to be crafted from corn husks, this dress tries (and obviously fails, epically) to combine a million elements at once, which is the kiss of death for any style. It’s also just god awful ugly. That cotton half-poncho ruffle thing? NO. That dollar store netting  on the skirt? NO NO. The Big Bird color in general against her skin? NO NO NO HEIDI. Everything about this is dreadful, including her severe hair and prom section shoes. Auf Wiedersehen, HK.


Padma Lakshmi
Pack your knives and go home, Padma:

 The Top Chef host was another celebrity to choose a hard-to-wear chartreuse color, but doubled up on mistakes by also choosing a hard-to-wear fabric: satin. Padma has a beautiful figure but this dress isn’t doing her any huge favors. Better luck next year.


Amy Schumer
Amy, I LOVE you, but girl, you HAVE to stop being friends with Jennifer Lawrence. It’s clear that AS has a case of “My friend can wear anything so I can too!” disease. We’ve all been through this. Or, well, all my friends have been through this as a tragic byproduct of knowing me.

 A strapless dress is, contrary to the ubiquity of strapless wedding gowns, quite difficult to pull off. If you’re flat chested, you look like a 10 year old boy. If you’re busty, you get the dreaded armpit spillover. Instead of working the girls, Amy has good legs and should’ve focused on those with a fun short frock versus this too-heavy gown that looks like it’s about to fall off at the first gasp. And that hair? No. I get that she was going for “Britney Spears 2001 MTV VMA snake dance hair” but this isn’t it. Messy in an un-cute way, I think a low, sleek chignon paired with killer earrings would’ve worked better with this dress, don’t you?

When did Andy Samberg get married and WHY WHY WHY is his wife wearing this:

 This contraption makes Heidi Klum’s dress look like Kate Middleton’s wedding gown by comparison. It’s so confusing and weird it’s almost funny. Almost. 


Amy Poehler
File this as a “Love or Loathe” because I can’t quite fully declare it a disaster…but I certainly don’t love it, either.

Right? J’adore Amy but this look just doesn’t suit her for some reason. It’s too…LA. This is what I picture Gigi Hadid wearing, not Amy. It seems a bit too youthful and wannabe sexy and that’s not her vibe. But then again, she doesn’t look bad. What are your thoughts, minions: Did Amy pull this off with aplomb or is this a little too far outside of her fashion wheelhouse?
