Buhari Commiserates With Itsekiri On Passage Of Olu Of Warri
President Muhammadu Buhari, has commiserated with the Itsekiri people of Delta State on the passage of their revered monarch, Ogiame Atuwatse II, the Olu of Warri.
In a statement issued in Abuja, yesterday, by the Special Adviser to the President, Mr. Femi Adesina, Buhari conveyed his personal condolences to the Olu’s immediate family and relations as well as friends and associates of the highly respected monarch.
He said the deceased, whose transition was formally announced at the weekend, would be greatly missed by the Itsekiris people of Delta and all Nigerians.
The President urged members of the late Olu’s family and the Itsekiris people, to be comforted by the knowledge that Ogiame Atuwatse II, would be remembered as a peace-loving monarch, who did his best to foster the harmonious co-existence of his people with other ethnic groups in Nigeria.
Buhari noted that the late Olu would also be honoured by present and future generations as a most worthy custodian of the rich cultural heritage of the Itsekiris.
According to him, the deceased would also be remembered for the commendable wisdom, sagacity and benevolence which he exhibited in his 28 years reign over the Itsekiri nation.
The statement added that as they “begin the three-month mourning period for their departed traditional ruler, the president prayed that God Almighty would receive the late Olu’s soul and grant him eternal rest.”
